Employment

Marcus helps people who have been terminated from their jobs get a fair deal from their former employers. He also assists employers and employees with a variety of other sensitive workplace issues: disability accommodation, return to work, pay equity claims, human rights complaints, and workplace harassment. For employers, he drafts and edits documents using plain language, including workplace policies, manuals, and employment contracts.

Human Rights

Marcus has represented many clients before human rights tribunals, at every stage in the process, including on judicial review. He is sensitive to the unique nature of human rights violations, and always works to find a fair resolution of issues between the parties if possible.

Not for Profits

Marcus guides not-for-profit clients through difficult processes, such as by-law reviews, drafting workplace policies, conducting internal investigations of workplace harassment, and hiring and terminating employees. As a frequent NFP boardmember and a former not-for-profit worker, Marcus knows that NFPs often need legal support as they perform their vital work.

Civil Litigation

Marcus conducts a variety of civil litigation, often at the intersection of one or more of his other areas of practice. He knows that court cases can be costly and time consuming — but it doesn’t always have to be that way.

Marcus has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada, and represented clients before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and at other administrative hearings. He regularly represents clients in negotiations and mediations, inside and out of formal court proceedings
