Areas of Practice
-
Employment
Marcus McCann Law represents both workers and employers in wrongful dismissal cases. We also assist with a variety of other sensitive workplace issues: termination of employment, disability accommodation, return to work, and workplace harassment. For employers, we draft and edit documents using plain language, including workplace policies, manuals, and employment contracts.
-
Labour
We work with unions and employers in grievance arbitration, collective bargaining, and matters appearing before the Ontario Labour Relations Board. Please note: we do not represent workers in duty of fair representation complaints against their union.
-
Civil Litigation
We have appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada, and represented clients before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and at other administrative hearings. We regularly represent clients in negotiations and mediations, inside and out of formal court proceedings.
-
Executive Terminations
Marcus McCann Law represents senior leaders, executives, and c-suite employees in all types of employment matters, from reviewing employment contracts to negotiating with employers post-termination. We understand the intricacies of variable compensation, stock options, incentive pay, bonuses, non-competes, and executive releases, and we will work with you to make sure you get what you are owed.
-
Human Rights
We have represented many clients before human rights tribunals, at every stage in the process, including on judicial review. We are sensitive to the unique nature of human rights violations, and always works to find a fair resolution of issues between the parties if possible.

Nonprofits
Marcus McCann Law guides not-for-profits, charities, coops, and social enterprises through difficult processes, such as by-law reviews, drafting workplace policies, workplace harassment complaints, and hiring and terminating employees. We know that not-for-profit clients often need specialized legal support as they perform their vital work.
